Bansaleños Reunion in Connecticut

Late afternoon of March 11, 2006, the quiet neighborhood of Stamford, Connecticut was almost awakened by the screaming, yelling, and shrieking of Bansalenos who for years haven't seen each other. And these are just the guys. Okey, the guys were well-behaved. It was the ladies who did most of the disturbance. Thanks to the sound-proofed activity room in the 16th floor of the Soundview Towers, the residents didn't have to call the riot police.

Good cheers and camaraderie filled the air. People were hugging, back-tapping, cheek-to-cheeking, handshaking, high fiving, introducing, recounting, eating, drinking, balleting, and dancing till the knees were aching. And oh! There was that highly anticipated world premier introduction of the Association of Bansalenos Worldwide (ABW), its projects, achievements, future plans and visions presented by the ever-energetic Lalay Noel-Rispens straight from Gouda, Netherlands.

One day was not enough, the reunion spilled over till the next day with brunch and more social activities. As all good things must come to an end, some tears were almost shed with a promise that we will meet again in another venue. This early, we have volunteers to host the next event such as Valeri Dacanay of New York, the Bautistas of Washington, DC and Daday Amor of Houston Texas.

To capture the moment for those who were not there, here are some of the pictures that will be forever etched in memory of that glorious two days for Bansaleños in Stamford one chilly March weekend.

The venue - Sound View Towers of Stamford, Connecticut.

The host - Luchie Arriaga-Padrones, ballet dancer extraordinaire.

Some of the attendees, Bansalenos with their families and friends in Luchie's well-designed pad.

Initial meeting at the Holiday Inn Select, Stamford, CT. Still looking fresh and ready to party. (left to right) Emie Lucero, Jane Nique, Lingling Camasura, Lalay Noel, Oddie Burgos, Ann Nique, Faye, half-man slim Ed, (back row) Rowena, Jeffrey Nique, and Jet Galvadores.

At this stage, the lechon is still intact but counting the minutes towards its final demise. The lechon eaters flashing their fangs were Lingling, Luchie Arriaga, Ann, Lalay, Jane, Jeffrey, Neneng Amor, Bella Amor, Sister Irene and Jet.

Ed's ready to deliver the final blow to the lechon's butt and looking psycho. Jeffrey was screaming: "Run pig, run!"

Lalay was begging for the lechon's ears as it is her favorite part but somebody already took the right ear. Cannibals!

Jet Galvadores from Georgia joined the fray with his weapon while Ann Nique tried to feed the hungry with empanada.

Sister Liceria Sayon led the solemn prayer while Neneng Amor from Alaska and Jeff were busy posing for the camera. Huli kayo!

Luchie was a gracious host serving her guests. Is that brown rice? Yum, healthy.

There was an around-the-room introduction of attendees with Dr. Edith Bautista-Quint facilitating. Brenda Chauca was introducing her family.

Free line dancing lessons were offered by Nits Tatad (left) with the nuns beating the laity in terms of dancing moves. Now we know what the nuns do for exercise. Lambada?
