Every year, millions of Filipino children and youth could not go to school. Due to poverty, at least 5 million children and youth in the Philippines are out-of-school.
- Out of 100 children who enter first grade, only 60 will be able to reach Grade VI.
- Out of 60, only 14 will be able to finish high school.
- Out of 14, only 5 can complete a 4-year college course, vocational or technical course.
But some children do not have a chance at all to go to school due to extreme poverty. Public elementary school in the Philippines is free but free is relative. Many children in the Philippines are still out of school because their parents are too poor. School-related expenses like school uniforms, shoes, transportation fare, snacks, lunch, school supplies, school contributions, and other learning materials are beyond the financial capabilities of poor parents who live in hand-to-mouth existence.
Every child has the right to education.
The Association of Bansaleños Worldwide (ABW) supports the Education Campaign of the United Nations as embodied in its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). One of the goals is to achieve universal primary education. Its target is to ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.
Our Commitment
An elementary education alone is not enough to secure a better future for a child. We also strive to support high school and college students as well and this is only possible with your assistance. We do not make any distinction between intelligent or slow-learner children. We choose children from the poorest families whose children has the motivation to go to school.
Who Are We?
The Association of Bansaleños Worldwide is composed of former residents of Bansalan, Davao del Sur who are now living in various cities and countries in Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, USA, Philippines, among others. We are united in our common desire to support the social, cultural and economic development of our hometown of Bansalan.
We focus our educational assistance to the poor children of Bansalan. However, we also support children in other towns of Davao del Sur and Cotabato provinces depending on the wishes of the donors.
Together, we strive that no child will be deprived of education. Join our Literacy Project campaign by sponsoring a pupil or student:
- US$ 25/year per pupil
- US$ 100/ per high school student/year
You may sponsor one or more pupils or students. If you are interested to support a college student, we will help you find out the cost of one year education. The amount will vary according to the course of the student.
Let’s break the cycle of poverty by helping our unfortunate but deserving poor children and youngsters to acquire education. Let’s work together to provide them with a better future.
We call on our civic-minded people, the business sector, and various organizations to join us in our campaign to send our boys and girls to school.
