Council

Young
and juvenile, the Bansalan MAFC, surprisingly, is adjudged as this
year's national awardee for it has reaped for its municipality and
supervised barangays a good crop of agriuclture-based contributions
and achievements.
Organized
only in 1993 with 23 barangays and 25 participating BAFCs, 80% of
which represented the private sector and 20% the government sector,
the Bansalan MAFC, Davao del Sur initiated and was able to obtain
a regular funding from the local government. The funds it used for
the re-activation of the barangay AFCs for the implementation of
hte Gintong Ani programs of the DA. Among its very visible contributions
for the upliftment of the farming households were some 44 solar
dryers and three mechanical ones, 14 units STWs, 10 units SFRs,
barangay plant nurseries to help sustain about 200 hectares of farmland
and the distribution of certified palay and corn seeds.
Heeding
the Government's call for support to its food security program,
the Bansalan MAFC dispersed 44 head of cattle for breeding and availed
of a P200,000.00 loan from LEAD for its swine dispersal project.
It was responsible for planting trees along the watershed areas
and also made possible the conversion of raw materials from coconut
into good mulch. Furthermore, it was a major player in the implementation
of local and foreign-assisted projects, such as the P5.4-M SMall
River Water Impounding Project funded by the JICA thru the NIA.
